21 April 2015, Port Elizabeth - Today, the NMMU Business School third year MBA students begin with their three day Lean Management Elective. Students from across the country have summited to the business school this week to attend the paramount elective, which is presented by Prof Koot Pieterse.
Lean is not about manufacturing. It is about standardizing work processes to make problems visible and developing your team members’ critical thinking ability so that they can solve those problems and improve work processes. This in fact is a critical skill to have as we live in a world where we are always pressed for time and wasting time is costly.
Prof Pieterse is one of the country’s’ leading expert in lean manufacturing and management. He has published several books on lean and recently retired as the Operations Management lecturer on the MBA programme. He has lead more than one hundred Masters and several doctoral candidates to complete their treatises and theses.
He now heads his own consulting agency, Trilean Learning which focuses exclusively on consultation and training on lean in factories, hospitals, laboratories and other institutions.
